Description

"THE ETA CARINAE NEBULA"
- Widefield 590mm Crop LRGBHOO
- Area Constellation Carinae

Today I show another crop, a real material battle of photons, with many fine filigree structures and ramifications of dark nebulae, emission nebulae, and a handful of supermassive stars.

The Carina Nebula (NGC 3372), also known as the Eta Carinae Nebula, is an emission nebula in the constellation Carinae. It has an apparent magnitude of 3.0 and a diameter of 120 arc minutes. The nebula is one of the largest HII regions in the galaxy, located at a distance of about 7,700 to 9,600 light-years from Earth. It extends over about 200 to 300 light years. The best-known single object in the Carina Nebula is the variable star η (Eta) Carinae, which is part of the Trumpler 16 open cluster. This nebula complex lies in the Sagittarius arm of the Milky Way. One of the galaxy's largest HII regions, the Carina Nebula represents a vast star-forming region similar to the Orion Nebula. An image of the Carina Nebula was among the first five James Webb Space Telescope images released to the public in 2022. Eta Carinae could be a double or triple system. It can be assumed that it will explode as a supernova in an astronomically short time.

Taken with an ASA H8 f2.9 Hyperbolic 200mm, focal 590mm, an ASA DDM60Pro mount and the QHY600M. 8 lights each of 240s for R, G & B, 32 lights each of 300s and 8 lights each of 420s hAlpha and OIII at f/2.9 - worked out as LRGHOO.

Conditions for registration:
Mercilessly clear nights under a dark Namibian sky in the Hakos Mountains. Remote telescope rented, May 2021
Motivated by new processing techniques and new promising EBV tools (BTX, SPCC, etc...) I went back to taking pictures of my first sniffing with a rented remote telescope located in the African desert. At that time I was already very enthusiastic about this fabulously great sky, completely free of any disturbing light pollution - the telescope was still quite new at the time and not yet optimally adjusted - the stars in the corners have suffered a bit - thanks to BTX I was now able to do this as far as possible correct 🙂
