Description

I imaged the Milky Way from the amazingly dark skies on the Hawaiian islands of Kauai and the Big Island at the end of July and beginning of August.

This is the fifth in a series of images from the Big Island where we stayed along the Kohala Coast on the northwestern part of the island looking out over the Pacific Ocean. The Milky Way and Jupiter as seen in this view. I grabbed ~40x30 sec subs but clouds were rolling throughout this evening and the stack of all the subs wasn't great. So, I just stacked the first 5 subs which had the fewest clouds.

Imaged using a Nikon D750 and Nikon 28-300 mm travel zoom at 28 mm and F/3.5. Exposure was 30 seconds at ISO-3200. Pre-processed using PixInsight Batch Pre-Processing (BPP) script. Images calibrated using darks, bias, and flats. Stacked 5 subs. Post-processed in Pixinsight: Cropped, gradient removal with ABE, MLT for noise reduction, Background Neutralization, Color Calibration, SCNR, stretched using Histogram Transformation Tool, Curves Transformation, HDR transform, Local histogram transform, and Color Saturation boost.
