Description

Crest of the Horse's wave. The Flame fading from emission to reflexion to dust. Vanishing stars, and Alniram's blue light sculpting dust pillars; an echo of the Witch's head. And the deep is never black in Orion.

1 stack of 110 30s images, Canon 800D at ISO 800, Canon 400mm f5.6 lens wide open, iOptron Skyguider Pro tracker. 100 darks, 350 biases. Processed in PixInsight as below

* saturate Horsehead: red_mask = starless_R - starless_G with everything but Horsehead clonestamped out. Histo stretch shadows 0.019 highs 0.5 mids 0.4. With it on, raise saturation a lot, and lightness slightly - poor man's Halpha mod

* desaturate background: extract luminance, histo stretch shadows 0.12 highs 0.25 mids 0.2, blur 4 layers w/ A Trous - nebula_mask. Apply inverted, desaturate with curves (50% max sat, log-like curve)
