Description

This object is a barred spiral ring galaxy located 80 million light years away in the constellation of Pegasus at a declination of +18 degrees. This object spans 2 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 55,000 light years. We are viewing the galaxy about halfway between face-on and edge-on.

Although small, I find the structure of this object to be interesting. The outer disk region looks flocculent and fairly undefined, although with a bluish tint in contrast to the yellow inner section. The barred core is bright and has a distinct brown dust lane on the left circumference. A ring has formed mid-disk. Two arms extend from the core, up and down, with the upper arm being brighter and better defined.
