It took me three months to finally finish collecting the data for this image, I have never seen so many cloudy nights!

I framed up this image to give the appearance of the "Spider" in the top right of the image attacking its prey, the "Tadpoles" in the lower left.

This was tricky to pull out the Spider as it is much dimmer than the tadpoles. I went through a few runs of processing to finally get something I liked. I went with a more Red looking natural image with the SHO data because I really wanted to highlight the vastness of the hydrogen gas in the nebula. SII was almost non-existent and could probably to great in just HOO.

SH2-236 contains two remarkable inhabitants of the cosmic pond of gas and dust above and left of center, the tadpoles of SH2-236. Partly obscured by foreground dust, the nebula itself surrounds NGC 1893, a young galactic cluster of stars. Formed in the interstellar cloud a mere 4 million years ago, the intensely hot, bright cluster stars energize the glowing gas. Composed of denser cooler gas and dust, the tadpoles are around 10 light-years long and are likely sites of ongoing star formation. Sculpted by winds and radiation from the cluster stars, their heads are outlined by bright ridges of ionized gas while their tails trail away from the cluster's central region.SH2-236 lies some 10,000 light-years away, toward the nebula-rich constellation Auriga.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
