Description

This is a crop of my ambitious 8-panel mosaic of the Rho Ophiuchi & Blue Horsehead nebula region. I did not expect the color gradients to compete with the color of the target .  I think after this, I need to take a hard look on RGB mosaics from my backyard, especially southern targets which is at a disadvantage.

When I started on this last month, I went with 10 minute exposures then dropped it 5 minutes. Plus I shot 5 panels in SGP and transitioned to Nina thinking it looks close enough, stars match between panels. So wrong, ended up shooting all 8 panels with Nina as when I stacked data from both these apps, a thin black line showed up. So I lined up close, but not enough to clear the overlap region.

DBE or ABE did not give good results at the end  (doing it 32 times for 8 panels) so I ditched it and tried with APP after creating an RGB image per panel. Removed the LP gradient and went with 8, still brightness was off on two panels.

Realized 8 won't work, so went with 4 panels of Rho region, stacked them and processed it. I'm happy this turned out decent in comparison to my Day 1's mosaic image. I will try to push the Blue Horsehead next and attempt the full mosaic later.

Hope you like this result. Clear skies!

[Edit] - If not for the stacking artifact, I would have gone with the original. Thanks to the sharp eyes of @Uwe Deutermann , he picked up an extra star on the reflection nebula and PM'ed me which kick started the revision. Thank you very much @Uwe Deutermann
