Description

This is the first image taken with my ASI294mm. Its also the first image that I've taken since August. Very bad weather coupled with personal issues have interfered with my imaging. I chose NGC 2841 because it is currently visible most of the night and would give me a good indication of how much detail I could bring out with my new camera.

NGC 2841 lies 46 million light-years away in the constellation of Ursa Major. Very bright starlight marks the galaxy's center while spiraling outward are many dust lanes. Notably missing are pinkish emission nebulae indicative of new star birth. NGC 2841 currently has a relatively low star formation rate compared to other spirals that are ablaze with emission nebula. This explains why the galaxy image is dominated by a bright center and dark dust lanes.
