Description

The Seven Sisters, also known as the Pleiades, are an open cluster of hot blue stars in Taurus, and are among the few of the 110 Messier Objects visible to the naked eye. The cluster is very close to Earth at only 400 light years. The cluster is known as "Subaru" in Japan, and the seven stars are the company logo of the car maker today. The Merope star causes a reflection nebula, which is the outer dust illuminated by the blue light of these hots stars. This deep exposure shows not only the blue Merope Nebula, but the tinges of outlying nebulosity without as much color. It is a composite of much data collected over the past two years.
