Description

A bright reflection nebula in Cepheus, NGC 7023 is actually the cluster within the dark nebula, LBN 487, which is being lit by the hot, young central star, SAO 19158. The dominant color of the nebula is blue, characteristic of dust grains reflecting starlight. Central filaments of the reflection nebula glow with a faint reddish photoluminesence as some dust grains effectively convert the star's invisible ultraviolet radiation to visible red light. The pretty blue petals of the Iris Nebula span about six light-years. [from Wikpedia and an APOD write up]
