Description

This object is an HII region located about 5000 light years away in the constellation of Auriga at a declination of +36 degrees. This nebula spans 10 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a visible width of 15 light years. Recent infrared images reveal that this nebula is a huge star formation complex more than 100 light-years across. The nebula is ionized by the brightest star at the center of the nebula, the magnitude 10.5 star BD +35 1201.

This object is the 235th entry in the Sharpless catalog. This catalog, published in 1959 by Stewart Sharpless of the United States Naval Observatory, identifies 313 ionized gas cloud HII regions north of -27 degrees declination.
