Description

NGC 2968 is the central 11th mag galaxy in this image. NGC 2964 (11th mag) and NGC 2970 (13th mag)  are in the field of view.
I wasn't trying to do more than capture as many images as I could stay awake for using just a 30s exposure.
I might try the same image with 60s and 90s exposures just to see the difference, but I have to wait for a night of no Moon and no clouds.
This is my first serious set of images after getting my QHY128C back from repairs.
I have also been using the default gain of 2000 with an offset of 30. I might try a gain of 100 with and mess around with the offset a bit. Just trying to find the sweet spot for imaging.
My biggest disappointment with this image is in getting PixInsight to do a PCC - it can't get a star solution on the image. ASTAP has no problem with the image. I have another set of images for M77 and PCC gets a star solution with that. Both sets of images were taken on the same night.

To get some kind of satisfactory image, I did the best I could with PI and then finished it off with Affinity Photo. And I'm still not pleased. However, Affinity Photo did a much better job of removing the gradient and background than PI did.
