Description

To finish off a great night of observing and imaging at TAAA's SE AZ Dark Site (my first visit to the Chiricahua Astronomy Complex), I was able to spot the Comet PanSTARRS. This stacked image shows the dust tail of the comet, as well as the ion tail. (Excuse the strong gradient in the lower-right, but that is dawn lighting the sky.) While it was still dark, we were able to see PanSTARRS clearly in scope and binoculars, as well as just barely by naked-eye. Earlier the previous evening, I had also been able to snap PanSTARRS in a pair of quick images just after Sunset (a two-fer !).
