Description

This rarely imaged small object, also known as Sh2-189 or PK 131 + 2.1, is a planetary nebula located 8400 light years away in the constellation of Cassiopeia at a declination of +64 degrees. The nebula spans 1.2 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of just less than 3 light years.

The progenitor star is clearly visible at nebula center, although there is a possibility that it could simply be a well placed foreground star. The nebula is curiously not quite round - I assume that there has been some interaction between the nebula and the ISM.
