Description

IC 1318 (also the Butterfly Nebula) - An emission nebula located in the constellation Cygnus. It was discovered by Edward Barnard in August 1893.

This nebula is 2,500-5,000 light-years from Earth in the Milky Way's Orion arm. The Butterfly Nebula is named after her

shape, as its two luminous lobes are separated by a long, dark belt of dust.

IC 1318 is located near the star Sadr and the young, tightly grouped star cluster NGC 6910
