Description

This is a wide field image of Saturn from 26th May 2022, showing its retinue of moons.
At upper left is the largest and ruddy coloured Titan. The two in a diagonal down from there are Rhea and Tethys respectively. Inside Tethys is Enceladus and on the other side is Dione. Mimas was inside Enceladus and closer to the rings, but the seeing was not quite good enough to pick it up.
As the rings narrow, these moons appear closer to Saturn as their orbits are in the same plane as the rings. When the rings are wide open Titan is always widely separated from the planet as it swings around it in its wide orbit. When the rings are edge on in 2025 it is may be possible to see Moon and shadows transits of Titan.
