Description

„The Big ?“

It consists of two emission nebulae, Sharpless 2-170/171 and spans from the constellation of Cepheus to Cassiopeia.

Due to waxing gibbous moon but very clear skies the last few days I was able to collect narrowband data with the H-Alpha filter that blocks the bright moonlight.

The filter reveals in just under 3 hrs of total integration time more faint details as I would get in 10 hours without it, but in exchange of non natural-looking colors - neither the stars nor the background or the nebulae itself have their natural color - even though I tried to make at least the nebulae a bit more vibrant- and natural-looking because I also like the reddish tone - it’s a bit more uncommon and there are already plenty of monochrome images out there.

... I think it looks cool :-).

In my opinion those two objects (especially in combination) are one of the most extraordinary and beautiful targets out there in the northern hemisphere.
