Description

This object is a lenticular galaxy located 50 million light years away in the constellation of Virgo at a declination of +11 degrees.  It is a magnitude 11 galaxy which spans 5 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 80,000 light years.  The disk is about 20 degrees from edge-on in our apparent view.

I love the thick brown inner dust ring and the X-shaped pattern in the bright disk lens, which is shaped like a hexagon. The galaxy edges extend somewhat beyond the bright disk lens.
