Description

SNRs emit most strongly in emission lines and here the 10 minute exposures were 17 x H-alpha, 15 x Oxygen III, 11 x Sulphur II for a total of about 7 hours.  Since the SNR is so large, these exposures were distributed between two fields of view and the result is a mosaic of those two fields.  Coloring is naturally red Hydrogen-alpha as red, naturally cyan Oxygen III as cyan, and naturally far red Sulphur II as yellow (what else?).  There is a lot of sulphur emission from this SNR.
From Wikipedia:
The nebulous area is fairly large with an almost spherical shell and filamentary structure. The remnant has an apparent diameter of approximately 3° an estimated distance of approximately 3000 (±350) light years and an age of approximately 40,000 years.
It is believed that after its stellar explosion a rapidly spinning neutron star known as pulsar PSR J0538+2817 was left behind in the nebula core, emitting a strong  radio signal.
