One of the products of my long camping weekend at a dark sky site this weekend, I'm totally in love with this one! I've imaged the Iris a few other times, but have never quite done it justice. I had some tracking and guiding issues that meant I didn't get as many frames as I could have over three nights, but I'm still pretty happy with this nonetheless. More to come from this weekend!

The Iris Nebula, cataloged as NGC 7023, is a bright reflection nebula in the constellation Cepheus. The bright star at its center, and the open cluster in the area, reflect light off the gas cloud. The area is also suffused with dark, light-absorbing dust. The nebula is about 6 lightyears across and lies 1,300 lightyears away from us.

Title: Re-Processed May 2023

Description: I re-processed this image with new techniques I've learned since I shot the original in 2020, as well as with new processes that have made it even better -- BlurXterminator, StarXterminator, and NoiseXterminator chief among them. I was also able to get more contrast out of it this time and make it have that 3D look that you always seek in astro images, especially dark nebulae. :D:D
