Description

The Elephants Trunk Nebula

This is just a small portion of a massive nebula located in the constellation Cepheus, around 2400 light years from earth. It is a concentration of interstellar gas and dust inside a much larger ionized gas region.

This image is a collection of 15 hours worth of exposure time on the object as follows -

22x15 minute shots through an SII filter

22x15 minute shots through an H-Alpha filter

22x15 minute shots through an OIII filter

All binned 1x1 & Dithered. Pixel scale = 0.82”/pixel

+ 20 each bias & darks, & 25 flats

Sensor placed at -15 Degrees Celsius for every image, including calibration shots - although unnecessary for some, why not.

Some pixinsight processes used include - Drizzle Integration, Dynamic Background Extraction, Deconvolution, RGB Combination, LRGB Combination, Colour Calibration, MultiscaleLinearTransform, TVGDenoise, Morphological Transform, & Lots of masks & Curves Transformations.
