Description

NGC 3184 is a spiral galaxy approximately 40 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major. The galaxy has a high metal abundance and at least 6 supernovas have been discovered over the last century, the last in 2016. In these aspects NGC3184 resembles NGC6946, although its reddening (as a result of local galactic dust) is much less than the latter.

The bright red star west of the galaxy is GP Ursae Majoris: a 6.55 magnitude star of class M2III.
