Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a pair of galaxies both located 600 million light years away in the constellation of Triangulum at a declination of +32 degrees.   This object lies just 1 degree north of the famous galaxy M33.  In his Arp catalog, Dr. Arp classified this object into the category of Spiral Galaxies with Elliptical Galaxy Companions on Arms.

The right galaxy is LEDA 5714.  This magnitude 16 elliptical galaxy spans 20 arc-seconds in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 65,000 light years.

The left galaxy is UGC 1095.  This magnitude 15 spiral galaxy spans 1.1 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a large diameter of 200,000 light years.

The structure of UGC 1095 is fascinating – a bright mini-spiral in the inner region, and long star stream arms in the outer region.  The unusually straightened right arm is pointed directly into the companion galaxy core, which I find very interesting and which is very similar to that of Arp 97.
