Description

I have always been intrigued by the interesting galaxy IC 1296 that is visible in many images of Messier 57. This is my attempt to get a good image of the galaxy, but to do so I had to overexpose M57 a bit. I suppose I could try some "Photoshop magic" (using GIMP) to make them look similar in brightness, but I haven't yet decided if I'm comfortable altering reality that drastically. Right now I'm much more interested in getting a reasonably accurate representation of things than I am in getting a pretty picture. I guess I'm hoping the pretty pictures will just happen periodically while I take the photos. I find it to be an interesting exercise to try to imaging what these objects would look like up close. Would they look at all like our images?
