Description

OK folks!  I wish you a Happy New Year (now I'm done wishing Happy New Year for this year) , and with it I bring you my version of The Angel Nebula.   This one includes NGC2170, NGC2182, and NGC2085 together with a lot of molecular hydrogen and dust.  This beautiful star forming complex is located in the Monoceros R2 molecular cloud some 2,500 to 3,000 light years away.

I have always wanted to do this subject and I have tried a few times in the past.  But I was never quite up to the task.  It is fairly dim and not very large so I thought the best way to tackle it would be with the C9.25 and Hyperstar.

We have been having pretty poor weather conditions in Arizona for months and it seemed that anytime we were blessed with a clear night, it would occur when the moon was near it's maximum.  But we got lucky this cycle and I had four very clear nights with average seeing and I was fortunate to be able to take advantage of them.

There are a good number of stunning images of this subject here on Astrobin done at various image scales.  My thought on this project was to do a good amount of Hα integration to see what would come of it.

This is also a first-light for an ASI2600mm that I think is simply a wonderful camera.  I played around with some different crops and settled on this one because I like the Hii bubble-like region surrounding the blue star in the lower right side of the frame.

I hope you like this one, comments and criticism always welcome.  CS and good health!
