Description

My initial goal was to image the Sh2-171 complex in SHO (or any possible permutation of the three, whatever gives the "nicest" result). When the idea of this triplet of images at different focal lengths struck my mind, I chose to publish my data at its current state.

At the moment, the object is no longer a reasonable target until the mid to end of the year where it's higher in the sky. Hence, you might need to wait for it to get some color.

Appealing at this object are the nebula structures which are especially interesting towards the southern end of the whole complex, named Cederblad 214. As you can see from the image data, collecting some Ha isn't a really big issue. The object is fairly bright in Ha, which I would associate with the information that this is a star formation region with relatively young stars. On the other hand, SII is already much weaker and needs quite some more integration time to lead to a good SNR. OIII is extremely weak. There is some signal visible but I assume it deserves 10h+ of integration time alone to capture OIII with a good SNR.

Given the fact that the weather here is a pain in the *** over the last year and doesn't seem to get better, one needs to carefully select targets as otherwise they'll take forever to capture.

This image is the first zoom-in of the extreme wide-field image of the Cas-Cep border region (https://astrob.in/2msw03/0/). Actually, before I have taken this image here, I captured the core of Ced214 in a separate image which is probably done with the smallest reasonable image scale. The revision to this image shows the inset of the image with my maximum focal length of 1600mm. The image is found here: https://astrob.in/3sh264/0/

Description: This revision includes an inset which shows the highest "magnification" that I reasonably achieve with my equipment. (https://astrob.in/3sh264/0/)
