Description

Messier 97 is a relatively close planetary nebula at only 2K light years distance.   It's also young, with an estimated age of 8K years.   It is expanding at a rate of ~30K meters/sec, and displays 3 shells of material.    The outermost shell is very faint (only faintly visible in this image). 

This image just peaks my interest in the Owl.    Having seen what's possible,  I think I'll return to this object and capture more frames in the future to really bring out that 3rd shell and smooth out the background.   The field would seem to be ideal for a "deep" view, having lots of faint fuzzies around.
