Description

I moved over to this target on the same night as shooting the Whirlpool Galaxy as its nearby, but was still difficult to locate precisely. Increased 45s exposures helped obtain more data but limited time on target and some issues with drift meant a faint result, but my first attempt nonetheless and I'm pleased with the composition and overall image.

Capture details:

iOptron SkyGuider mount on standard 1.5" tripod (at lowest height), PoleMaster polar-aligned. Canon EOS 5D III DSLR and Canon EF400mm f4 DO IS lens attached to mount via ST80 tube rings, a William Optics plate, an Arca Swiss clamp and a Feisol panning base.

5 light frames / 45s / f5 / ISO 400

10x dark frames

25x flat frames

~50x bias frames

Initial processing done in PixInsight (Calibration, Debayering, Star Alignment, Integration, Dynamic crop, ABE, Adaptive Stretch). Final editing done in Lightroom Classic 9.2 (highlights, noise reduction, contrast + brush stroke adjustments on galaxy).
