Description

Normally I use these widefield shots to pick new targets, but in this case I've already shot most of the main targets in this area like the Elephant's Trunk nebula (IC 1396), Bat and Squid (SH2-129), and Wizard Nebula (SH2-142), with my Z61. This shot is has convinced me to add the Lion Nebula (SH2-132), and a bunch of smaller Sharpless objects to my list.

I've mostly used the SHO palette in the past but I always feel like the result is too green, so I've tried HSO here but done some cross channel mixing in addition to the normal saturation and vibrance adjustments. The result is a bit purple, but I was happy to be able to keep the H regions mostly red. The other caveat is that I've given up on creating accurate flats for this lens after the third try (and will probably retire it for astrophotography as a result), so there was a lot of manual brightness adjustments made for aesthetic purposes. For example, I really wanted the squid nebula to show up here (which is why I shot 16 hours of OIII data), but still needed to adjust that region manually.
