Description

This is the second object I have managed to capture from my 4 days under clear skies in a Bortle 1 zone. I have close to 12h of exposure on this... and I would have shot at least double that if I had the opportunity.

NGC 2170 is probably one of those object that I wanted to capture the most since I started this hobby but never had the chance. It is my favourite region of the sky and one that I think looks beautiful. This is a slightly cropped in image of my native frame as I prefer this framing of the object. It is definitely a tricky one to process... star spikes would look great but I just can't bring myself to adding them with software.. Shooting this with a Newt would be ideal for this.

I have tried to bring as much detail as I could but at my focal length I can't get it much sharper than I have... I have seen sharper example of this but they have all been with telescope of much greater focal length and apparture than mine... It looks a bit soft to me but  I guess it what it is...!  Another thing that I wanted to do was to bring as much detail into the surrounding gasses around the nebula... maybe more integration time would benefit this region. Overall I'm pretty happy today... hopefully tomorrow as well

my 8 year old son see a dragonfly in this picture… and I agree with him I can see that too! I’m struggling to see the angel though…
