Description

M 97 is a planetary nebula also known as ( NGC 3587 or The Owl Nebula ) which is located in the constellation Ursa Major. It was discovered by French astronomer Pierre Mechain on February 16, 1781. When William Parson observed the nebula in 1848, his hand-drawn illustration resembled an owl's head. Thus the name Owl Nebula was born and today it is still called the Owl Nebula. It is estimated to be between 1,640 to 10,000 Light Years from earth.

M 108 is a barred spiral galaxy also known as ( NGC 3356 ) which is located in the constellation Ursa Major as well. It was discovered by Pierre Mechain in 1781 or 1782.This galaxy is seen nearly edge-on, which is fairly bright and appears somewhat spotty.It is located 35 Million Light Years from earth.
