Description

M95 is a well known galaxy in Leo, that has caused me grief in the past and

continues to cause grief!

I got caught out by an unexpectedly clear night last week and had no Arp galaxy

prepared - so I went for M95 as the night looked good and the galaxy was just

about as high as it gets in my sky.

The background was high but I decided to complete the exposures. I took around

60 x 120 sec subs. and called it a day as the mists were rolling in.

Next day, processing revealed some success but a burnt out core didn't look too

good! I'd already noticed that most net images of this galaxy displayed a burnt out core but

just a few showed great detail of interesting structure in the core.

I tried ddp processing, which smooths out high-contrast areas such as galaxy

centres. Mixed success; the core shows some detail; but not right to the centre and

I'm not happy with the overall effect on the stars and the background.

Anyone got an advice for using ddp? I took out the luminance, processed it with

ddp and recombined it with the rgb. It virtually destroyed any colour in the

image, so I just did the ddp on the OSC image, which did retain the colour but

probably isn't the right way to do it.
