Description

The main galaxy is UGC 10814 or VV10a, magnitude 15.5. There is a small galaxy, possibly attached, at its south end, this is MCG+8-31-42 or VV10b. Toward the north end of the big tidal arm is VV10c. UGC 10814 is classed as Sb. MCG+8-31-42 is classed as Sd, magnitude 14.9. The southern elliptical is the E0 galaxy MCG +08-31-041, magnitude 14.8. It is probably interacting with UCG 10814 and has a fairly active core. You can just resolve the connecting bridge between the two galaxies. The little interacting pair marked ?? have defied my attempts to identify them. I cannot say how distant they might be.

This entire interacting system is about 350 million light years from us in northern Hercules. You will not see much, if anything, through the eyepiece, at least I couldn't. Arp classified it class 'E and E-like Galaxies Connected to Spirals' and the comment in the Atlas says "Note loop E side of spiral, difuse, very faint connection to E galaxy."
