Description

NGC 6765, a very small, peanut? shaped planetary nebula in Lyra. Not as impressive as the 'other' Planetary in Lyra, this is magnitude 12.5 and a mere 38arcsec in size.

My image, 25 x 3 min. exposures, sima combined, shows some of the faint detail and a lot of stars. Taken on July 24th, the same night I recorded M57, which lies quite close to ngc 6765.

I often try to keep to the same part of the sky during an imaging session. This way PHD, the guidance software I use, doesn't have to be re-calibrated (in theory!). Also, I have to critically balance my OTA on it's GEM to keep PHD dec guidance working reasonably well - as this balance varies in different parts of the sky, balancing is a pain best avoided if at all possible. I believe that imagers using fork mountings do not have this issue, or at least it is much reduced. Hence you get images from me which are grouped fairly close together in the sky at any one time of the year.

I'm done with Lyra and planetaries for now, time for some more galaxies.
