Description

The reflection nebula IC 5134 and it's associated star cluster NGC 7129 gives us some idea of what the birthplace of our solar system may have looked like. My image, taken using visible light, shows only a fraction of what is actually going on inside the reflection nebula. The Spitzer infra red space telescope gives a far greater understanding of the internal workings of the cluster/nebula.

The article below gives an excellent description of the nebula and includes an image taken in Infra-red light.

Note the crescent shaped Herbig-Haro objects, green in the Spitzer image and barely visible in my image, which have been excited to emit in hydrogen alpha by energetic jets from the young stars forming within the nebula. These H-H regions are found at the ends of jets emitted perpendicularly to the plane of the accretion disc around the nearly formed star.

My image, taken in August is the result of 35 x 3 minute exposures.
