Description

NGC1808, 40 Million light years away in Columba (the constellation of the Dove). It's a Seyfert galaxy (which means it has a bright active nucleus), but quite odd. There are some strange dust lanes that look to be curling out of the nucleus like eyelashes. There's an amazing number of background galaxies that you'll see if you've got a properly calibrated monitor. A particularly unusual looking pair sits just below the leftmost of the three bright stars across the bottom of the frame. In galactic terms, they're, um, 'at it'.
