Description

LDN 1355 is located in a bustling region of the constellation Cassiopeia, shrouded in dust and gas. This dense area of interstellar material creates an intricate and mysterious shape, often compared to a hand reaching out into space, hence the nickname "A Helping Hand." The cascade of three dark nebulae—LDN 1357, LDN 1355, and LDN 1358—forms the image of a hand with an open palm.
The delicate structures of these nebulae, mixed with faint hints of glowing hydrogen and reflected starlight, made it a coveted target for me among other 'dark and dusty' objects. The abundance of dust, several dark nebulae, and a few reflection nebulae are accentuated by the stunning stars, adding color and bringing life to the darkness. Two stars set the overall light pattern in the image—the yellow giant SU Cass and the variable star RZ Cass.
Across the entire field of view, there is a vast distribution of molecular dust of varying thickness, density, and color, which defines a beautiful play of light and shadow.
