Description

Arp 282 is an interacting pair just under 200 million light years from us. It consists of a large, distorted spiral, NGC 169 and a small companion with tidal arms, IC 1559. Arp described the pair "Companion appears to rain into the nucleus of spiral."

The companion looks as though it is falling into the core of 169 but it is probably well in front of the galaxy after passing around the east end. The two will probably become one sometime in the future, as there appears to have been several near misses in the past.

This image the result of around 50 x 2 minute exposures through my 10" Newt.
