Description

The Double Cluster is one of my favorite objects to look at through my 9.25 SCT. It's looks like two diamonds merging in a jewel box.

This capture was an experiment in in taking good sampling Luminance data with unlocked 1x1 binning of the ASI 294 MM at 2.3 um pixel size and upscaling the color data to match from a 4.6 um with ASI 294 MC.

Only 1 hr 10 min of integration time, I am pleased with the result and like the resolution gained with the luminance data especially to crop in on the clusters themselves.

The double cluster is a combination of two open clusters in the constellation of Perseus. NGC 884 (3.2 million years) is thought to be young than NGC 869 (5.6 million years) which is more compressed. Both clusters are an estimated 7,000 light years from earth, each is approximately a few hundred light years from the other.
