Description

ngc 2782 or Arp 307 can be found in Leo.

Arp 307 is a member of the Double Galaxies class. The Atlas note says "possibly not interacting". Not easy to say from my image though all 3 galaxies have similar redshifts and similar distances of around 160 Mly. The large E-type galaxy is NGC 2872, the SE spiral is NGC 2874, and the smallest of the group, to the NE, is NGC 2873.

The Hubble image san be seen here, upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/cf/ARP307-NGC287... - it shows a marked bar not immediately apparent in my image.

Recorded on 17th Jan 2010, this is the result of 32 x 120 sec exposures.
