Description

NGC 5579, or Arp 69 is to be found in Bootes.

It is an interesting subject because of it's 3-armed structure, which shows a strangely broken arm just S of the nucleus. Clearly something has disturbed ngc 5579 and the clumps of star-forming regions throughout the arms, together with the bent arms have some similarity to galaxies observed in the early universe. So, in theory, ngc 5579 can be useful in the study of galaxy evolution, though it's doubtful that Halton Arp studied 5579 for those reasons.

My image is a mosaic of several nights observations because I found the galaxy cluster to the E to be of some interest and wanted to include it in the finished product.
