Description

This is my initial attempt at imaging M13, the great globular in Hercules. This was imaged during a 2 week astronomy road trip while in Utah and Arizona. Even with the minimal integration time I was quite impressed with the result. I used the 8" f/4.9 in conjunction with a Televue 2inch 2x Powermate with the camera adapter to acquire the image data at 2000mm FL. This yields a over sampled image at ~0.5 arc-sec/pixel.

I greatly enjoy the golden color of the old stars mixed with the subtle blue of the young stars in the cluster. Also, worth noting, the cluster is ~25,000 lightyears distant. On the opposite end of the spectrum the small galaxy, IC4617, in the upper right is ~500,000,000 light years distant!!
