Description

Arp 174 is a pair of galaxies with a large tidal plume. It is also known as NGC 3068 and is located about 300 MLy away in the constellation of Leo. Arp classified it in the 'narrow counter tails' group. It appears that the plume comes from the small mag. 16.7 companion but it is not clear whether the 2 components of Arp 174 are in fact connected. Arp's comment on the pair is "Smaller galaxy very condensed."

My image, which just barely shows the faint plume, consists of 35 x 120 second exposures.
