Description

Hoag's Object (PGC 54559) is a bizarre "ring galaxy" located 600 million light-years away. It's tiny, it's faint, and it's weird.

Certainly not going to win any pretty-picture awards, but I'm excited just to see this thing at all. If you look at the Hubble image of this galaxy, there is another ring galaxy seen through the inside of its ring. Given how rare ring galaxies are, that's really weird.
