Description

This is an image of the emission nebula Sh2-296 (known popularly as the "Seagull" Nebula and also known as LBN 1033). The region within and around Sh2-296 are several notable celestial structures. Emission nebula IC 2177 (also known as LBN 1027, GUM 1, Sh2-292 Ced 89c) is the Seagull's head and embedded within this structure is the reflection nebula vdB 93. Other reflection nebulae are vdB 91, vdB 92, vdB 95, and NGC 2327. Open clusters are NGC 2335 and NGC 2343 (the "Doublemint" cluster). Lastly, there is the planetary nebula PN K 1-8. Also there are many dark nebulae in this field that are not annotated (Dobashi, TGU and LDN). These objects and some of the brighter stars are seen in the annotated image. The Vertical FOV is approximately 120'. Image scale of the full size image is 2.15 arcsec/pix.
