NGC 6872, also known as the Condor Galaxy, is a large barred spiral galaxy of type SBb pec in the constellation Pavo. It is 212 million light-years from Earth. NGC 6872 is interacting with the lenticular galaxy IC 4970, which is less than one twelfth as large. It is magnitude 10.69 and only +0°02'48.18" x +0°01'24.12" arcminutes (below center to right). It has a radius of 26,000 light years
and is about 5 billion years old.

At the time of aquisition in 2019 a real struggle with seeing conditions and local light gradients. By itself it would be a great feature object through a larger scope with a longer focal length.
But THAT will have to wait until I move to a darker location and I can add an extra observatory fit for that purpose. There was a reason I switched to refractors. Simple and easy to use with no wasted good nights dealing with collimation and temperature / focus shift issues etc etc etc. Clear nights are getting too rare to waste. I need at least have one reliable scope running without all that fuss.

8 Jan 2023 Another rainy day update using new Pixinsight tools and techniques on the same small 30x180 second RGB data set from 2019. Chalk and cheese really.

Next July, weather permitting, I will get a deeper run with longer exposures.
