Description

This was one planned target on my trip to Arizona where I aimed to get one object per night. I wanted a galaxy and wanted to see how the one shot camera did with regard to native detection of H-alpha and compare with H-alpha acquired through narrow band. I did not do my homework to realize the Andromeda Galaxy actually has relatively small amounts of H-alpha compared with some other large galaxies.

For the final version (A), I accumulated 1.75 hours of RGB data and 1.11 hours of H-alpha, both recorded with the ZWO ASI 2600MC, a one shot color camera. It took me awhile to learn Pixinsight but longer to figure out how to use PixelMath to combine the Red channel and the H-alpha in a reasonable ratio. Based on my limited experience with Pixinsight, I used Photoshop to help with some steps and to add some mild sharpening in the end

I do feel the H-alpha added significantly over RGB alone. You can compare with version B which included only the one shot color RGB data (1,75 hours) and displayed with approximately the same display parameters.
