Description

A southern gem! The Colossal Condor galaxy (NGC6872) and surrounds NGC6876, NGC6877, NGC6880 plus others. Located in Pavo, it's a behemoth of a spiral galaxy at over 500,000 light years from one end to the other but only has an angular size of about 5 arcmin as it's so far away. It's known to be interacting with the small lenticular galaxy just nearby (IC4970) and is said to be responsible for the highly elongated shape.
