NGC 2626 is a spectacular detail within the broad

panorama of the Vela-Puppis section of the southern Milky

Way. As a reflection nebula, it receives most, but not all, of

its light from an embedded B1 V star, CD [40¡4432

(Herbst 1975a). Herbst gives V , B[V , and U[B values of

10.02, ]0.46, and 0.46, and [0.41 mag, respectively, for the star.

NGC 2626 is contained within the large H II region RCW

27 (Rodgers, Campbell, & Whiteoak 1960). A major contributor

to the ionization of RCW 27 is the O star

HD 73882, 40@ west of NGC 2626. A distance of 1.0^0.1

kpc has been found for the young stars associated with

RCW 27 (Pettersson & Reipurth 1994; Herbst 1975b).

NGC 2626 is joined to a dark dust cloud cataloged as DC

259.94[0.0 by Hartley et al. (1986). Several Ha emissionline

stars were already known in the surroundings of NGC

2626 (Pettersson & Reipurth 1994). Some are faint and are

likely T Tauri stars. A Herbig-Haro object (HH 132) and an

IRAS point source (08337[4028) were identiÐed in the

region by Ogura (1990)
