Description

M5 / NGC5904 – Globular Cluster in Serpens (Ser)

Severely cropped  DSLR @ F420 mm photo. Please compare this very poor, uncropped original RAW full size single image !

This is my first serious try with a globular cluster. From my balcony, the sky view is very limited. In particular, the famous M13 (GC in Her) is out of reach – as is everything from 58° above horizon and beyond.

A first test shot looked frustrating with M5 being a very small and muddy patch with next to no detail – see original uncropped version.

Nevertheless, I took 90 x 60s images, stacked them and did a radical center crop, throwing the very most of the image away ... to make this small object stand out more prominently.

M5 is the biggest globular cluster I can see and image from my home.
