Description

Sh2-23 and Sh2-24 in Ophiuchus is one of the closest molecular clouds to earth yet it is extremely faint and difficult to image, it is estimated to be about 500 light-years away. These Sharpless objects are molecular clouds and do not contain significant narrow band Halpha, OIII, or SII light.  This image was taken with standard RGB filters from Bortle 1 skies at 9000' altitude, near Blackrock Ranger station Tulare county CA.
